Nazi Germany

Nazi Germany and the Third Reich are common names for Germany between 1933 and 1945, while it was led by Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP). The name Third Reich (Drittes Reich, ‘Third Reich’) refers to the state as the successor to the Holy Roman Empire of the Middle Ages (1st Reich) and the German Empire of 1871–1918 (2nd Reich).

Billy Joel strikes again.

In 1989 he wrote a song about an experience he had in Russia, where he met a man who lost his father in the Siege of Leningrad, one of the most protracted battles in World War II. Against all odds, the Russian Army and Leningrad's citizens held out against the Germans for just under three years.

The song is based on Billy Joel's true experiences on tour in Russia in 1987.
